Hi, My name is Dr. Elan Karten, and I’m a US-trained
clinical psychologist offering psychotherapy to individuals from their preteen years all the
way through late adulthood. While I also offer couples and family therapy, my main focus
and experience are in working with individuals. Here’s a little bit about how I work.
My goal in working with clients is to enable a deeper encounter with themselves and engage
them in the important process of feeling and dealing.I work from an integrative framework
that recognizes how our life experiences shape us, but I tailor therapy to each person’s
needs — drawing from evidence-based tools like ACT, EMDR, and somatic-based
strategies to support healing and change. The heart of this work is always the
relationship—that’s the foundation everything else is built on. I favor understanding my
clients over diagnosing them, and prefer empowering my clients over doling out advice.
I operate from the framework that it could be me on the couch, and that they deserve the
same respect and understanding–as well as challenge– that I would want as a client.
The duration of therapy varies for each client. We frequently check in to evaluate progress
and reassess whether adjustments to the treatment plan are necessary to ensure the most
effective path forward.
Sessions last 50 minutes and are conducted by google meet, phone and in person (Israel).
Absolutely. It’s hard to commit to therapy before you’re confident that the therapy I offer is what you are looking for.
I am happy to have a brief phone conversation with you to address any questions and concerns.
